As I’m leafing through my photo albums and look at old photographs, my heart is overflowing with love and gratitude towards my parents. This is how I remember them from my childhood. I knew them, trusted them, and I adored them, always knowing I was safe. Noticing my dad’s shiny shoes in their wedding photograph, I remember how he sat me down at the age of six, teaching me how to take care of my shoes – how to use the brush, apply polish without making too much of a mess, then the hows in using the rag to make them shine.
I miss my dad.
The photograph at the top is of my parents on their wedding day, September 10th, 1949. My mother’s wedding bouqet was created with Sweet Peas, her favourite flowers.
